Why you’ll love it
That daiquiri is what you’d call a ‘fond memory’ cocktail. It’s typically enjoyed in the summer with the warmth of the sun soaking into your skin, but we think it’s perfectly acceptable to enjoy it all year round given how refreshing it is. Patrick Pistolesi, our master mixologist, has mixed our award-winning version using white rum, citrus and liquid sugar. It’s a classic cocktail and a crowd pleaser all at once, and is one of the most well-balanced drinks around.
The Daiquiri’s story
Surprisingly, the Daiquiri (pronounced ‘da-ee-kiree’) is actually named after a mining town in Cuba. This choice was down to Jennings Cox, an 1900s American mining engineer, who ran out of gin while hosting a cocktail party. Forced to improvise, he grabbed rum: the most readily available spirit in Cuba. A few years later, the daiquiri spread to New York’s social scene. By the time prohibition kicks in 20 years later, American tourists are flying to Cuba, specifically asking for daiquiris.
