Spicy Margarita Cocktail Recipe

If you’re a classic Margarita fan it’s  time to get spicy! The summertime favourite comes in many guises including Strawberry and Tommy’s or even the low alcohol twist Margarita Next coming in at only 10.8% . This refreshingly spicy take is for adventurers who love to meet a challenge palate-on. You can use fresh jalapeños or go to the end of the article to make our jalapeño cordial from scratch, which only takes a total of half an hour to prepare.

What is a Spicy Margarita?

The Spicy Margarita cocktail is made with Tequila, Triple Sec,  fresh lime juice, orange juice, egg white and slices of jalapeño. We recommend using Tequila Exotico Blanco 100% Blue Agave produced in the Highlands of Jalisco as it is famed for its crisp herbal aroma with spicy base and fresh agave with hints of pepper and herbal notes. Good quality ingredients are the key to this punchy cocktail so make sure your juice is freshly squeezed, your chillies top-notch and even though the egg white is optional, don’t leave it out as it adds that gorgeous top to give it a smooth creamy texture.

Before we add our ingredients to the shaker let’s not forget to pay tribute to the small and dangerous chilli pepper itself. There are different types of  jalapeño that you can experiment with depending on you and your guests’ taste for spiciness.

Different types of Jalapeños

The jalapeño was traditionally cultivated in Xalapa, the capital of Veracruz, Mexico, hence its name meaning “from Xalapa”. Did you know that there are also red jalapenos? Here we have prepared a list of varieties and each one has a 🌶️ which represents 1k SHU on the Scoville scale for heat.
